Excellent Service
Truly a Solid app, only issue is they try to be more than a non-custodial wallet. Sometimes simple is better.
Overview
BitPay, founded in 2011 by Tony Gallippi and Stephen Pair, is a prominent Bitcoin payment service provider based in Atlanta, Georgia. It offers Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash payment processing services for merchants. BitPay began as a mobile checkout service for companies accepting bitcoins and rapidly grew its merchant base, including major clients like WordPress. The company relocated to Atlanta in 2013 following a significant seed funding round, citing the city's fintech ecosystem as a key factor. Over the years, BitPay expanded globally, opening offices in New York City, San Francisco, St. Petersburg, Amsterdam, and Argentina.
In 2016, BitPay launched the BitPay Visa Prepaid Debit Card, the first prepaid Visa card for bitcoin users in all 50 US states. This period also saw collaborations with major companies like Intel and Microsoft's Azure Cloud platform, enhancing BitPay's offerings. However, in 2017, there were fluctuations in their minimum payment requirements, and Steam discontinued accepting bitcoin payments through BitPay due to high transaction costs and volatility. BitPay received its virtual currency license from the New York Department of Financial Services in 2018
